Making Manifest: A Weshhhside Tale
Making Manifest: A WESHHHSIDE TALE Visual Design
As part of WESHHH.The Collective’s film debut, “Making Manifest: A WESHHHSIDE TALE,” I led the visual design for the project, creating a suite of posters and social media visuals that reflected the film’s layered, non-linear narrative and collective spirit. Drawing from the film’s themes of origin, community, and individuality, I crafted a visual language that mirrored its experimental structure — blending typography, color, and form to echo the fluidity and cohesion of the group’s storytelling.
In addition to visual work, I contributed to the sound design, music production, and engineering — a behind-the-scenes role that helped me stay deeply attuned to the film’s tone and rhythm. This dual engagement with both the auditory and visual worlds informed a more immersive design process, allowing me to align graphics with emotion, energy, and intention. The result was a cohesive visual identity that honored both the individuality of each WESHHH member and the power of their collective voice.
This poster was designed to capture the soul of Making Manifest, a short film by WESHHH.The Collective that explores themes of community, identity, and nonlinear storytelling. The visual approach balances boldness and intimacy, using minimalist composition and dramatic contrast to create emotional and cultural resonance.
The layout draws on editorial and cinematic design principles — combining a serif script with a heavy sans-serif to underscore the interplay between elegance and power, individual and collective. The word "MANIFEST" commands attention at the center, while the title’s organic flow ("Making") softens the structure, reflecting the duality in the film’s tone and form.
At the core of the composition is a high-contrast black-and-white image of a raised hand holding a woven fan inscribed with “WESHHH” — a symbol of cultural pride, craft, and collective voice. The hand emerges from deep shadows, evoking the idea of history, ancestry, and emergence. Careful use of negative space allows the image to breathe and gives the viewer’s eye a focused path, while the understated film credits and laurels ground the poster within a professional cinematic context.
